We are seeking a skilled and innovative
Drone Mechanical Engineer
with a deep expertise in drone systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will drive mechanical design across all phases of drone development, pre-production, production, and post-production, while leveraging their experience to support construction-focused applications such as site monitoring, surveying, and inspections. This role requires a creative problem solver who thrives in fast-paced environments and brings at least five years of full-time drone engineering experience (or eight years combined full-time/part-time) to the table.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and development for rotorcraft, fixed-wing, or hybrid drone platforms
Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software teams to integrate multidisciplinary systems
Define mechanical performance requirements and validate them through analysis and testing
Develop prototypes, oversee manufacturing processes, and support vendor relations
Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and reliability standards throughout product lifecycle
Support drone deployment in construction environments for monitoring, surveying, and inspections
Duties and Tasks
Translate requirements into detailed CAD models, 3D prints, and working prototypes
Conduct structural, thermal, vibration, and fatigue analyses to verify mechanical integrity
Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), assembly drawings, and tolerance specifications
Set up and execute test plans, document results, and iterate designs based on data
Partner with production teams to optimize manufacturability, assembly workflows, and cost targets
Troubleshoot field issues, provide root-cause analysis, and implement design improvements
Train internal stakeholders and field technicians on mechanical aspects of drone operation
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum five years of full-time experience (or eight years combined full-time/part-time) in drone mechanical design
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Nastran)
Hands-on experience with prototype fabrication, test rigs, and manufacturing processes
Solid understanding of propulsion systems, material selection, and structural analysis
Familiarity with FAA regulations, safety standards, and design validation protocols
Willingness to work and get paid as a subcontractor for each drone engineering project.
Preferred Requirements
Experience applying drones to construction use cases: site monitoring, land surveying, or inspections
Knowledge of composite materials, additive manufacturing, or advanced fabrication techniques
Background in production scaling, quality management systems, and failure-modes-effects analysis (FMEA)
Exposure to multidisciplinary integration with avionics, control systems, or autonomous navigation
Excellent communication skills with the ability to document technical designs and lead cross-functional reviews
