The job purpose is to facilitate the smooth and reliable movement of people or goods while prioritizing safety, punctuality, and professionalism. This role involves maintaining the vehicle in optimal condition, planning routes to minimize travel time and fuel consumption, loading and unloading cargo, deliveries, and communicating effectively with dispatchers or supervisors.
Safe Vehicle Operation:
- Operate company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner, to transport passengers, goods, or materials to their destinations as assigned.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in good working order and report any maintenance issues.
- Ensuring the safety of themselves, passengers, cargo, and other vehicles on the road.
- Operate the vehicle safely and responsibly, considering weather conditions and road limitations.
Compliance with Traffic Laws and Company Policies:
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving, including but not limited to obeying speed limits, traffic signs, and signals.
- Must remain vigilant and alert to their surroundings, employing defensive driving techniques to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conduct regular checks of the vehicle's condition before and after each trip, including fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and signals.
- Ensure that the vehicle undergoes scheduled maintenance as per manufacturer recommendations, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups.
- Promptly report any mechanical issues, unusual noises, or warning indicators to the appropriate authorities or maintenance personnel for timely repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance activities, including dates of service, repairs performed, and mileage, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Keep the vehicle clean and organized both inside and out, removing any debris, trash, or clutter that may pose safety hazards or obstruct operation.
- Drive the vehicle in a manner that minimizes wear and tear, such as avoiding abrupt acceleration, harsh braking, and excessive idling.
Accident Rate:
- The number of accidents the driver has been involved in during a specific period.
Safety Violations:
- The number of documented traffic violations incurred.
Near Misses or Close Calls:
- The number of reported incidents where an accident was narrowly avoided.
Defensive Driving Techniques:
- Adherence to safe driving practices like maintaining following distance, using turn signals properly, and avoiding distractions.
Pre-Trip Inspection Completion:
- Consistently performs thorough pre-trip inspections to identify any potential vehicle issues.
Cargo Handling:
- Effectiveness in loading and unloading cargo, ensuring proper handling, securing, and documentation of goods during transportation.
On-Time Delivery Rate (OTDR):
- The percentage of deliveries or passenger pick-ups/drop-offs completed within the designated timeframe.
Route Planning and Optimization:
- Ability to plan efficient routes that minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
Fuel Efficiency:
- Average fuel consumption per trip or per mile/kilometre.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Diligence in vehicle maintenance and care, including the number of vehicle breakdowns, maintenance issues, and adherence to scheduled maintenance checks.
Staff Complaints:
- The number of staff (passengers) complaints received about the driver's behaviour or service.
