1. To provide inputs for effective vessel operations and ensure optimal utilization and allocation of resources space, equipment and personnel.
2. To continuously monitor and manage the vessel operations, resolve issues if any, by ensuring continuity in accordance with terminal policies & procedures, legislative policy and customer requirements.
3. Before the vessel is berthed, ensure to receive the color sheet from the vessel planner and allocation details from the vessel superintendent to understand the number of cranes to be used and the number of container to be discharged and loaded from each bay before commencing operations.
4. To propose changes to the crane program in coordination with vessel planner based on the number of cranes assigned to the vessel and confirm changes with the vessel planner to enable him to finalize the plan and update changes in the system. Ensure the following factors while assigning:
a) Minimal or no clashing occurs between the quay cranes during their loading/discharging cycles
b) The impact of discharge in the yard (If the complete vessel is discharged within a short span of time, it might affect the yard capacity and result in traffic congestion)
c) Optimization of double cycling
5. In case of a dynamic change in the stowage plan, receive updated sequence sheet from the vessel planner
6. To continuously analyze the discharge and loading locations in the yard to understand the number of switchers required based on the distance to be covered. If required to increase, discuss and seek approval from the duty superintendent.
7. To Coordinate with runner to ensure the movement of gang members and assemble them under crane before the vessel is berthed.
8. To ensure that the quay cranes are arranged along their respective bays as per the crane program.
9. To Synchronize the yard and crane activities by coordinating with vessel planning and changing the crane program (changing the sequence of bays) based on yard congestion (other vessels also loading/discharging at the same yard location) & crane efficiency (If one of the quay-cranes is performing considerably slower, hence leading to clashing)
10. To co-ordinate with the Dispatchers, Yard Planners, Yard Supervisors and Switcher Supervisors to investigate switcher delays
11. To analyze at regular time intervals, balance and done moves information for each crane from the individual tally clerks and update the Information Desk at predetermined time intervals.
12. Assist in determining the type of gear/ slings are used for unconventional cargo, nonstandard containers and offer guidance for ‘out of turn’ or ‘rambling’ in the bay.
13. Ensure details about damaged/ leakage containers are captured in the system by Tally Clerk and subsequent actions are taken as per port policies and procedures
