Job Summary

Rock Petroleum is seeking a visionary and results-driven Director of Shipping to lead and optimize our global shipping operations. This role will champion the implementation of company policies, ensure compliance with international standards, and drive operational excellence with a strategic focus on safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Compliance

Lead the implementation of company policies across shore-based and vessel operations. Allocate resources and build high-performing teams aligned with company objectives. Foster a culture of clear communication and strong interdepartmental collaboration. Represent the company in critical decisions and emergency response scenarios. Ensure full compliance with national, international, and industry standards.
Regularly update the Board of Directors on strategic initiatives and key developments.

Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Protection (HSQE)

Champion a culture of safety and environmental excellence. Oversee the Safety Management System (SMS) to meet or exceed industry benchmarks. Support and guide the Designated Person Ashore (DPA). Lead continuous improvement initiatives through management reviews and audits.
Ensure emergency preparedness and readiness at all times.

Operational Excellence

Approve major technical repairs and dry-docking projects. Drive operational efficiency in compliance with ship management contracts.
Oversee commercial operations, voyage scheduling, chartering approvals, and customer relations.

Talent Management

Define staffing needs, lead recruitment, and ensure strong workforce development both ashore and onboard. Approve employee training programs and spearhead performance management initiatives.
Act as company spokesperson for media and public communications.

Financial Oversight and Procurement

Authorize strategic suppliers and manage procurement approvals.
Monitor and optimize annual expenses to maintain financial efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

Extensive marine experience and/or formal education in shipping. University degree recognized by national authorities. Significant leadership experience managing shipping company operations. Expertise in management, human resources, financial markets, and public relations. Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills.
Proficient in PC and business software tools.
