Performs a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and implementation of patient diet orders. Responsible for the medical nutrition therapy of patient/residents; nutritional assessment, nutrition care plans, patient visitation, inpatient/outpatient diet counseling, consults regarding advance nutrition support as well as assist in other areas related to the nutrition services department.
Responsibilities:
Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provides nutritional counseling
Consults with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient or client
Advises patient and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation
Counsels individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life
Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance
Provides substitutions if patient is unable to eat the meal provided, in accordance with diet restrictions
Evaluates appropriateness of diet order for diagnosis and recommends diet order changes as indicated
Select, train and supervise workers who plan, prepare and serve meals
Develops nutrition care plans and monitors patient response to care plan developed
Chart pertinent information from the nutritional care plan and from interventions
Collaborates with physician and nursing to deliver quality nutrition care
Acts as a Dietetic advisor to nursing, medical, allied health and catering staff in assigned areas
Maintains accurate statistical records and reports as required by the department and the facility
Performs all duties in a professional and confidential manner.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent to the same
DHA License as Clinical Dietitian
Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in the Hospital or similar organization
