Job Description

Position Summary: The Dental Surgery Nurse at Dr. Mariam A. Karim Dental Specialist Center is a crucial member of the clinical team, responsible for providing high-quality care to patients undergoing dental implant and surgical procedures. This role involves assisting the dental surgeon, and implant privileged dentists in managing patient care, and ensuring a sterile and efficient surgical environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Clinical Nursing Care: o Preoperative Preparation: Prepare patients for minor dental surgeries by reviewing medical histories, explaining procedures, and obtaining necessary consents. o Intraoperative Assistance: Assist dental surgeons during minor surgical procedures, including monitoring vital signs, managing instruments, and providing sterile supplies. o Postoperative Care: Provide postoperative care instructions, monitor patient recovery, and ensure comfort and safety during the recovery period.

2. Pre-Operative Preparation for Implants: o Review patient records, including medical history and diagnostic images (such as X-rays or CT scans) to understand the surgical plan. o Ensure that all necessary implant components, tools, and materials are prepared and ready for the procedure. o Provide patients with detailed pre-operative instructions, including medication guidelines and dietary restrictions 3. Infection Control: o Protocol Development: Develop and implement infection control protocols specific to the dental minor surgery service, ensuring compliance with NHRA guidelines. o Sterilization and Maintenance: Oversee the sterilization of instruments and equipment, and maintain a sterile environment in the surgery area. o Staff Training: Educate and train staff on infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and sterilization techniques.

4. Patient Education & Communication: o Pre- and Post-Operative Education: Provide patients with clear instructions on preoperative preparations and postoperative care, including medication usage, dietary restrictions, and signs of complications. o Health Promotion: Educate patients on maintaining oral hygiene and overall health, emphasizing the importance of post-surgery care. 5. Documentation & Compliance: o Record Keeping: Accurately document patient information, surgical procedures, and postoperative outcomes in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. o Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all nursing activities and surgical procedures adhere to NHRA regulations and standards.

6. Quality Improvement: o Continuous Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including audits, data collection, and analysis, to enhance patient care and surgical outcomes. o Feedback Implementation: Act on patient and staff feedback to improve service delivery and patient satisfaction. Qualifications: . Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the NHRA. . Experience in a surgical or dental setting, preferably with a focus on minor surgeries. . Strong background in infection control practices and protocols. . Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient care and education. . Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. . Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of care. Working Conditions: . Full-time position with potential for extended hours based on surgical schedules. . Clinical environment exposure to surgical instruments, materials, and potential biohazards.
