The Data Engineer works on a small team supporting data and analytics efforts. The team builds and maintains our data pipeline, ensuring that operational data is available to our reporting and analytics teams on a continuous basis. The role includes development, quality, and devops functions. The team also provides internal reporting capability which supports product management and other stakeholders in making informed decisions based on how our products are being used. The Data Engineer performs analysis, programs features, automates infrastructure, and participates in code reviews.

The position is eligible for remote employment; it will exclude the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Programming back-end data pipeline software in Python, may include front-end programming in JavaScript and related frameworks for data visualization

  • Data modeling & database design
  • Analysis and planning given a business need, identify data sources and transformations necessary to guide data-driven decisions; estimation of approach and sizing for development work in agile process
  • Support internal customers with questions and issue reports; monitor and maintain production systems.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be flexible to change.
Essential Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with Python
  • Advanced SQL knowledge
  • Git version control experience
  • Familiarity and comfort with variety of team collaboration tools such as Slack, Google Docs, and Google Hangouts that also support remote work
  • JIRA, Asana, or some other ticketing system experience to organize work and manage workflows
  • Some system monitoring tool experience (e.g., Instana, New Relic, Datadog)
  • Demonstrated orientation towards customer success and happiness; balances speed with quality; knows how and when to trade-off technical debt, how to opportunistically refactor, and when to not permit unacceptable quality into production
  • Ability to work in diverse team environment and client interfacing skills
  • Experience with peer design and code reviews and orientation around sharing and being a team player
  • Automated testing skills
  • Analytical problem solving skills including good debugging and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex information with a variety of stakeholders verbally, in writing, and in presentation
Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or other related field
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with 1 or more "Big Data" tools/architectures like Hadoop, Spark, Redshift
  • Message queueing
  • Stream processing
  • Apache Airflow
  • JavaScript
  • Kubernetes
