JOB DETAILS Job Title Data Architect & Modeler Sector Strategic Affairs Department Business Intelligence Section Enterprise Data Management Reports To (Job Title) Data Management Unit Head Job purpose Data Architecture/ modeler will be responsible to lead the development, validation, publishing, and maintenance of logical, conceptual, and physical data models. provide support to other data management domains where Data modeling activities can be required. Accountabilities Key Accountabilities Develop and provide best practices, guidelines, and standards of Data Modeling, to ensure the ongoing consistency of data models and verify their relationship to ever-changing business operations. Maintain the Data Model repository Up to Date and provide support to business and IT stakeholders Develop and maintain the architectural blueprint for an organization's data management framework at an enterprise level. Build and update Data models in the organization Provide alignment between Data models and structured/unstructured data implemented in the organization Align Data model requirements defined by local government policies leverage their knowledge of data modeling best practices along with cross-industry data expertise and data modeling tool expertise. Examine and identify database structural necessities by evaluating business operations, applications, and programming. Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with internal and external regulations. Stay abreast of the latest data management, storage, and processing technologies. Help business users and IT personnel select and implement systems. Key Responsibilities Work with multiple stakeholders in the organization to gather requirements for the database required to design and document data models. Working with businesses to understand the factors influencing delivery performance and efficiency Creating conceptual, logical, and dimensional models and supporting intellectual property by using modeling tools Supporting Information Analysts in exposing actionable insights Supporting Data Assurance Analysts with business rules and metadata Promoting data literacy and utilization across the organization Working with industry partner organizations on standards and other collaborative initiatives Build the Enterprise data model at a conceptual level Understand the data needs of the company or client Support the models with artifacts such as business glossary and data dictionary entries. Collaborate with the development teams to confirm, design and build the database model Engage the development team to implement the database. Be the focal point of contact to maintain an enterprise data model repository Adjust access to the data and the reports as needed Work closely with the development team to implement data warehouse processes and reporting Understand the organization's data migration needs Work with the development team to implement data migrations Work with data scientists to determine metadata querying requirements. Work collaboratively within Business Intelligence and Analytics department to enable and drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making across the organization Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies Leverage and enforce standards for data naming conventions to ensure consistency and reuse of data models Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts Validate business use cases for accuracy and completeness of proposed data models Supervise system migrations and Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions. Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new features. Communication & Working Relationships Business Stakeholders IT Business Partnership Team Vendors Qualifications, Experience, Competencies Qualification (e.g. Academic Qualification, Certifications, Licenses) Bachelor's degree Holder, Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related field is preferred 3+ years of experience as a data modeler CMMI, COBIT, ITIL, SCRUM, CDMP, Six Sigma, etc. certifications preferred Understanding of the industry standard frameworks, such as DAMA, DMBOK. Data Architect certification (IBM, Google, or Amazon) Demonstrable experience using data modelling tools - e.g., Erwin Experience with managing metadata for data models Demonstrable experience in developing, publishing, and maintaining all documentation for data models Work with Business Analysts, Data Architects, Software developers, and DBAs to achieve project objectives - delivery dates, cost objectives, quality objectives, business customer satisfaction objectives, etc. Knowledge of relational databases and data architecture computer systems, including SQL Familiarity with or a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information technology, or data modeling Knowledge of ER modeling, big data, enterprise data, and physical data models Extensive experience in Data modelling at all phases from context, through conceptual models to logical models, and will be a skilled user of an advanced modelling tool such as Erwin Data Modeler Strong attention to detail Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Knowledge and understanding of advanced dimensional and relational modelling best practices Good understanding of broader data governance and management frameworks and practice Experience in SQL databases and database querying languages preferred Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent presentation and organizational skills Appreciation of the fundamental business value of data and information The ability to present data concepts in business terms Business analysis skills and experience Stakeholder management skills and experience Knowledge of Agile development methodology and concepts. Understanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies, and systems development life cycle (SDLC). Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web services, enterprise data management, information security, and applications development. Experience with enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL.
