Job Description

Job Purpose

To operate the Computer-to-Plate (CTP) system and related prepress equipment to produce high-quality printing plates as per job specifications. The CTP Operator ensures accurate imaging, processing, and handling of plates to maintain smooth and timely production in the printing press.

Key Responsibilities

Operate CTP machines to produce printing plates according to job orders. Review and interpret job tickets, artwork files, and printing specifications. Check files for errors, missing fonts, images, or layout issues before plate making. Perform imposition, RIP (Raster Image Processing), and proofing to ensure accuracy. Calibrate and maintain CTP equipment for consistent quality. Handle, process, and store plates properly to avoid damage. Ensure plates are delivered to press operators on time. Perform regular quality checks on plates (registration, resolution, dot gain, etc.). Maintain daily logs of plate output and machine usage. Troubleshoot CTP equipment issues and coordinate with service providers when needed. Follow safety standards and maintain a clean working environment. Assist the prepress/design team when required.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of prepress workflow and plate-making process. Familiarity with RIP software (e.g., Kodak Prinergy, Heidelberg Prinect, Esko, or similar). Understanding of different plate types (thermal, violet, conventional). Ability to handle Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and PDF workflows. Attention to detail and accuracy in file handling. Good communication and teamwork skills. Basic mechanical/technical aptitude for operating and maintaining machines.

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma / Certification in Printing Technology, Graphic Arts, or related field. 2-5 years of experience as a CTP Operator / Plate Maker in a printing press. Knowledge of offset printing processes will be an advantage.
