The CSSD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, preparation, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical supplies, and equipment. The role ensures that all items are properly cleaned, sterilized, and available to support surgical and clinical procedures while maintaining strict adherence to infection control and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Decontamination & Cleaning
Receive, sort, and inspect used instruments and equipment.
Clean instruments using manual and automated methods (e.g., ultrasonic washers).
Follow proper procedures for handling contaminated items.
Sterilization & Packaging
Assemble instrument trays and packs for sterilization.
Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves).
Ensure accurate labeling and tracking of sterilized items.
Inventory Management
Maintain adequate stock levels of sterilized instruments and supplies.
Check for damaged or missing instruments and report as needed.
Record sterilization loads and maintain accurate documentation.
Quality Control & Compliance
Follow infection control guidelines and hospital policies.
Perform routine biological and chemical indicator tests to verify sterilization effectiveness.
Report any equipment malfunctions or process deviations promptly.
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with Operating Room (OR), Outpatient, and Inpatient departments to meet their supply needs.
Participate in training sessions and quality improvement programs.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
