JOB OVERVIEW:

To monitor and control project costs across all MEP scopes (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), ensuring alignment with budgets and contractual requirements. The role involves analyzing cost reports, validating expenditures, tracking budget performance, managing variations, and supporting accurate project forecasting in collaboration with site teams and management.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Cost Monitoring & Budget Control

Develop and maintain project budgets in coordination with project and estimation teams.

Track actual costs vs. budgeted figures for MEP activities across all projects.

Analyze variances and report on cost overruns or savings with justifications.

Maintain a detailed cost database by project, activity, and discipline.

2. Cost Reporting & Forecasting

Prepare monthly cost reports including cash flow, cost-to-complete, and earned value analysis.

Provide management with reliable cost data for decision-making.

Update forecasts periodically based on progress and change orders.

Support project close-out by reconciling final accounts with actual costs.

3. Procurement & Commitment Tracking

Coordinate with procurement for tracking material purchase orders and subcontractor contracts.

Monitor cost commitments, approvals, and invoice matching.

Ensure accurate cost coding of all expenses.

4. Change Management

Assist in pricing, tracking, and verifying variations and claims related to MEP scope.

Maintain a change log and ensure all approved changes are captured in cost tracking tools.

Coordinate with planning and contract departments to validate impact of changes.

5. Coordination & Support

Work closely with project managers, site engineers, planning, and finance departments.

Attend progress meetings and provide input on cost performance and budget status.

Support internal and external audits with cost-related data and documentation.

6. Compliance & Documentation

Ensure cost control processes align with company policies, project contracts, and international cost control standards.

Maintain accurate and auditable documentation for all cost-related activities.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to cost optimization efforts.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Education / Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.

Certifications:

Professional certification in cost control or project controls (e.g., CCP - AACEI, PMP) is a plus.

Experience

5-8 years of experience in MEP cost control in contracting companies within the UAE.

Skills:

Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of MEP systems and their cost components. Proficiency in cost control tools and techniques (earned value, variance analysis). Strong command of Excel and cost management software (e.g., Candy, Primavera, ERP systems). Familiarity with contract terms, BOQs, project budgets, and payment cycles.

Soft Skills:

Analytical and detail-oriented mindset. Good negotiation and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines. Team coordination and multitasking ability.
