ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Control and Instrument Technician to join our Engineering function at our Thrybergh. Reporting to the Lead Electrical and Process Control Engineer, the Control and Instrument Technician will provide technical expertise, maintain safe and efficient operations in Thrybergh Combination Mill with responsibility for delivering a range of services required by the department including: - * Quality Assurance, maintenance, and development of a wide range of combustion, process control and inspection equipment and instrumentation.

  • The delivery of key Process Safety work to ensure the continued safe operation of this equipment including Proof Testing.
  • Ensuring continued compliance with relevant company / statutory standards and accreditation for customer quality assurances.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Control and Instrument Technician will be responsible for: * Ensuring that plant, departmental personnel, and contractors operate within and comply with both company policy and statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Undertaking the maintenance and quality assurance procedures for equipment and plant across Thrybergh Combination Mill in order to ensure activities carried out are consistent with all relevant procedures, legislation, standards, behaviours, and performance targets.
  • Delivering efficient targeted maintenance to a range of equipment and instrumentation used across the department including, but not exhaustive, a 200t capacity natural gas burner reheating furnace, laser and c.c.d. camera measuring gauges and defect identification systems, a range of CCTV and communication equipment, PC and Server based product tracking and control systems
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of plant and equipment, by identifying and implementing improvements. Participating in failure identification and root cause investigations to further identify recommendations and actions to support problem resolution.
  • Maintaining asset availability and efficiency through the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities, in line with the companies' asset management framework (CAMF), statutory responsibilities, plant histories, fault finding techniques, delay analyses and the use of your own knowledge of process, and plant.
  • Attending meetings as required to assist in the management and execution of energy saving initiatives, engineering planning, furnace efficiency improvements, furnace upgrades, process safety.
  • Creating reports / feedback on relevant Maintenance Management systems.
  • Assisting with the management of contractors.
  • Assisting project engineers during the installation of capital projects and equipment.
  • Undertaking and assisting with the development of SIF procedures.
  • Carrying out calibrations and ensuring correct documentation.
  • Communicating with and attaining the support from the central network, process systems and process control teams where required.
  • Supporting the development of Technicians, Graduates, and Apprentices to satisfy current and long-term Business objectives.
REQUIRED SKILLS

The Control and Instrument Technician role requires an individual has the following: * Strong Drive, Motivation and Commitment: i.e., the individual is self-starting and self-motivated with a degree and consistency of energy / enthusiasm which is committed in the pursuit of objectives and business goals.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic based problem solving.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to communicate in clear concise manner, both in writing and orally, communicating honestly, clearly and directly, making effective use of communication technology.
  • Computer literate with practical experience of relevant Maintenance Management Systems.
  • A team worker, with a flexible approach to work.
  • Practitioner knowledge of process control and its application.
  • Qualified to ONC / HNC in an engineering discipline, preferably with an electrical based apprenticeship.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety, health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Awareness of quality management systems and external auditing requirements
  • A sound understanding and experience of the theory and practice of the following areas: - Instrumentation and Control Furnace Combustion and Control Equipment. Energy, fuels, utilities management and combustion of fuels Process Safety NDT and destructive testing inspection techniques and applications Communications: (hard wired tannoys and Radio Frequency systems), CCTV Weighing systems Plant sensors/detectors, transducers and displays PLC and PC systems
  • Quality standards, procedures, and auditing Inc. ISO9001, TS 16949, AS9100, IS0 17025, and NADCAP standards.
  • Process Systems, networks, and communications (SCADA, LAN)
  • Awareness of Process Hazards Analysis Methodologies, Hazard and Operability study (HAZOP) Risk Analysis and Assessment Methodologies
