A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physician, also known as a physiatrist, focuses on restoring function and improving quality of life for individuals with disabilities or injuries affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. They evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions, developing comprehensive, patient-centered treatment plans that may include medications, injections, therapeutic exercise, and assistive technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluation and Diagnosis:
Physiatrists assess patients' medical histories, perform physical examinations, and utilize diagnostic tools like ultrasounds, X-rays, and MRIs to determine the cause of pain or physical limitations.
Treatment and Rehabilitation:
They develop individualized treatment plans, often in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, to address pain, restore function, and improve quality of life.
Pain Management:
PM&R physicians utilize various modalities to manage pain, including medications, injections, and physical therapy.
Requirements:
Medical degree from a recognized institution, with specialization in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
Western board certification
(e.g., American Board, FRCS, or equivalent).
Extensive experience (10+ years) in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, with a proven track record of clinical excellence and leadership.
Previous experience in a senior leadership role in a hospital setting is highly preferred.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Fluency in English
