Commis Chef
Position: Commis Chef
Department: Kitchen / Culinary
Reports to: Sous Chef / Head Chef
Objective:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Commis Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for a passionate individual to learn and grow under the guidance of experienced chefs. The Commis Chef will be responsible for basic food preparation and supporting the various kitchen stations, playing a vital role in our kitchen's efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:

• Food Preparation:
• Perform basic preparatory tasks as assigned by station chefs (Chef de Partie) or Sous Chef (e.g., washing, peeling, chopping vegetables; preparing sauces; butchering meat; weighing and measuring ingredients).
• Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the assigned work station.
• Learn and adhere to all recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards.
• Kitchen Support:
• Assist cooks on different stations (e.g., Garde Manger, Grill, Saute) during service.
• Ensure all food items are stored properly and rotated (FIFO - First In, First Out).
• Monitor stock levels of supplies and ingredients at their station and report needs to superiors.
• Cleanliness & Safety:
• Follow all sanitation and food handling codes.
• Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes as required.
• Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to all kitchen safety protocols.

Qualifications and Skills:

• A genuine passion for the culinary arts and a desire to build a career as a chef.
• Some experience in a professional kitchen is an advantage, but not required; culinary school graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team.
• Ability to work efficiently and calmly during busy service periods.
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
• Basic knowledge of food safety practices is a plus.
