Job Description

Job Summary:

The Commis is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food. This entry-level position offers opportunities to learn and develop culinary skills while supporting senior kitchen staff in maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in food preparation and cooking under the supervision of a Chef de Partie. Follow instructions from senior chefs to ensure the consistent quality and presentation of dishes. Prepare and organize ingredients, including chopping, marinating, and portioning. Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and organized at all times, including proper storage of ingredients and equipment. Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in accordance with company policies and legal requirements. Assist with inventory management and stock rotation. Help in the setup and breakdown of kitchen stations. Follow recipes and presentation guidelines as set by the chef. Assist in the preparation of mise en place for each shift. Be proactive in maintaining kitchen cleanliness, including washing dishes and keeping workstations tidy. Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations. Support the team in other kitchen-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices. Ability to work efficiently and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. A passion for cooking and willingness to learn new skills.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Work environment is typically in a kitchen, which may be noisy and fast-paced.
