JOB PURPOSE BAE Systems is the UK GovernmentaEUR(TM)s nominated Prime Contractor under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF and Royal Saudi Naval Force personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons.

This role is to provide senior management and leadership for the Co-ordinating Design Organisation (CDO) Design Services in support of the RSAF Typhoon fleet, ensuring timely, safe, and compliant technical advice and design coordination. Lead a deployed Design Engineering team under MAI governance, act as the single technical focal for Typhoon Design Services to the RSAF, and ensure effective interface with the Design Authority (DA) via the BAES Typhoon Support Centre (BTSC) and UK DOA functions.

Lead and oversee the delivery of CDO Design Services (airframe, systems, electrical/avionics, mechanical), ensuring robust Part 21 design assurance interfaces and Part M alignment with CAO outputs.

Act as the primary point of contact for Typhoon Design Services to RSAF (TSC), ensuring authoritative, traceable responses to queries and design matters.

Manage, develop, and deploy the Taif-based Design Engineering team (work allocation, PDRs, development planning, technical delegation growth).

Ensure strict compliance with corporate/functional governance, Salam contract requirements, and local regulatory expectations (M&CA/CAME linkages for CAO).

Deputise for the Head of TTSS as required (letter of delegation), ensuring continuity of senior technical leadership. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES Design Query & Change Coordination

Own the end-to-end Query & Response process in Teamcenter, ensuring every query is registered, triaged, prioritised, and progressed to closure with full traceability.

Provide initial technical analysis, confirm scope/intent with the originator, and agree the optimum resolution path (CDO local response vs DA/BTSC engagement).

Respond within delegated authority using approved/controlled data; where required, obtain DA approval in accordance with Part 21 controls (classification, compliance evidence, CVE/DOA pathways).

Ensure all responses meet validation/approval requirements, including the post holderaEUR(TM)s delegated DA sign-off where applicable. Design Authority & DOA/BTSC Interface

Act as the technical gateway to BTSC/DA, preventing duplication, harmonising advice, and ensuring a common design approach across UK and KSA.

Marshall the technical case for DA support (problem statements, evidence,

drawings, fleet data, photos, test results), reducing cycle time and increasing firsttime- right outcomes.

Track DA actions to contractual SLAs and report ageing queries, blockers, and mitigations. On-Aircraft & Operations Support

Support Line Technical Support/Maintenance teams in diagnosing complex airframe/systems issues; convert ambiguous symptoms into structured, design actionable problems.

Where required, coordinate on-aircraft trials/inspections to gather design evidence; ensure data is configuration-controlled and referenced in Q&R. Configuration & Data Management

Enforce configuration management disciplines across queries and responses (applicability, effectivity, baseline references, standard parts/process).

Assure that any design advice that affects configuration, maintenance, or AMP assumptions is formally cascaded to CAO for CAME-compliant incorporation (tech instructions, records). Performance Management & Reporting

Manage inputs to monthly performance reports (throughput, SLA adherence, quality escapes, DA cycle time, first-time-right, rework).

Run technical reviews/interchange meetings to capture lessons learned, reduce repeat issues, and drive continuous improvement. Team Leadership & Resource Planning

Lead the Design Engineering team at Taif (workload, mentoring, PDRs, skills growth across airframe/systems/electrical/mechanical).

Work with UK Resource Management to maintain adequate cover/competence, succession plans, and surge capability. Stakeholder Engagement

Build and sustain strong relationships with RSAF TSC, CAO Services Managers, Salam Operations, Supply Chain, IKIP, MODSAP and UK functions.

Provide clear, customer-facing technical communicationaEUR"risk, assumptions,

limitations, and the operational impact of design advice. Governance & Continuous Improvement

Ensure unwavering adherence to MAI governance, export controls, and Salam contract controls.

Champion root cause problem solving (8D/A3), audit action closure, and standard work/templates in Teamcenter Q&R.

Proactively update technical guidance and checklists; train originators on "what good looks likeaEUR for queries to reduce iterate cycles. RECRUITMENT SPECIFICATION

Essential

Extensive proven post-qualification experience in fast-jet Design/Continuing Airworthiness environments, including a management role in a CDO/DOA setting.

Extensive proven post-qualification experience in fast-jet CDO environment.

Relevant Engineering degree with honours.

Registered with professional institute such as the RAeS, IET or IMechE

Be able to maintain registration with Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE)

Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary design teams (airframe, systems, electrical, mechanical) with measurable performance outcomes.

Deep working knowledge of Part 21 Design assurance, DA delegation pathways, and compliance evidence generation; strong familiarity with Part M/CAME linkages and CAO technical instruction pathways.

Hands-on experience with Teamcenter and Typhoon support toolsets (eg trilogiView/ESS), and robust CM practices.

Demonstrable stakeholder management across RSAF/BTSC/DA/UK functions in a performance-based support contract.

Desirable

Understanding of Life-Cycle Management, Quality & Safety Management Systems, export controls, commercial and procurement processes.

Familiarity with IKIP arrangements (approved repair agents) and integration with CAO/AMO outputs.

Chartered Engineer

RECRUITMENT Essential

Practitioner/Expert in Design query management and Part 21 interfaces; strong practitioner in Part M implications and CAO integration.

Practitioner in aircraft modification/repair pathways, Technical Instructions, and configuration control. Practitioner in CDO communication (technical writing, customer briefs) and leadership in a design context.

Familiar in reliability data appreciation sufficient to understand design impacts and inform DA problem statements.

Desirable

Detailed understanding of Typhoon Engineering Support System, Teamcenter structures, and data standards.

Appreciation of RSAF operating context and Salam contract performance drivers

(SLAs/KPIs). Leadership Competencies Essential:

Practitioner level of managerial and leadership skills in complex Part 21/Part M environments (prioritisation, delegation, coaching, performance management).
