JOB PURPOSE:
The Clinical Social Worker provides psychosocial assessment, counseling, and case management services to patients and families experiencing psychosocial, emotional, or behavioral health conditions. The role is central in supporting patients' rights, dignity, and holistic recovery while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Patient Care

  • Conduct psychosocial, social, emotional, and environmental assessments for patients and families
  • Provide counseling and support for long-term planning, crisis management, and decision-making to patients and families.
  • Develop individualized intervention and discharge plans in collaboration with the treating team.
  • Support patients in coping with illness, hospitalization, and rehabilitation, while addressing socio-legal rights and environmental challenges.
  • Assess risks (e.g., suicide, abuse, neglect) and initiate safety planning and referrals to appropriate authorities when required.
  • Engage patients' families and caregivers in the care process to ensure continuity and effective post-discharge support.
  • Provide specialized services in critical care, oncology, palliative care, pediatrics, transplant, and other specialty units as needed.
Professional Standards & Ethics
  • Adhere to Licensing Body and UAE laws, ethical principles, and professional codes of conduct.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality, privacy, and autonomy.
  • Recognize cultural, religious, gender, and socio-economic differences in service delivery.
  • Advocate for vulnerable populations, including women, children, elderly, and persons with disabilities.
  • Document all interventions accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic medical record.
Collaboration & Multidisciplinary Practice
  • Collaborate with the treating team such as psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, case managers, allied health professionals and homecare coordinators to develop care plans.
  • Participate in patient care rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and treatment planning.
  • Coordinate with community agencies, schools, and social service providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Coordinate with community resources and charity organizations to arrange patient support.
  • Contribute to health awareness programs that support both physical and mental well-being in the community.
  • Contribute to quality management, accreditation, and continuous service improvement programs.
Reporting & Compliance
  • Report cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children and vulnerable adults to appropriate authorities.
  • Apply patient safety and quality assurance standards in all aspects of care.
  • Comply with Licensing Body regulations, facility protocols, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Education, Research & Professional Development
  • Provide support and mentorship to students and junior staff.
  • Participate in staff education, continuing professional development, reflective practice, and self-care activities.
  • Contribute to social work research, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support hospital wellbeing initiatives for staff.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong skills in psychosocial assessment, counseling, and psychotherapy.
  • Knowledge of UAE medical laws and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Crisis management, risk assessment, and safeguarding expertise.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, sympathy, empathy, and advocacy skills.
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a healthcare or mental health setting.
Education:
BSc in Social Work and Master's in social work
Licenses / Certifications:
Valid Community Development Authority (CDA) license as a Social Worker.
