Job Summary:
The
Kitchen Steward cum Cleaner
is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, dishwashing area, and surrounding service areas. The role ensures that all kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces are cleaned, sanitized, and organized, enabling the kitchen staff to work efficiently and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1.
Dishwashing and Cleaning
Wash dishes, glasses, utensils, pots, and pans manually and using industrial dishwashing machines.
Sort and stack clean items appropriately in the kitchen and service areas.
Maintain cleanliness of dishwashing stations and storage areas.

Kitchen and Equipment Maintenance
Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, walls, and ceilings regularly.
Clean kitchen appliances and equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, blenders, and refrigerators.
Perform deep cleaning of kitchen equipment on scheduled days.
3.
Waste Management
Empty, clean, and sanitize all garbage bins regularly.
Properly segregate and dispose of kitchen waste as per local regulations.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in garbage storage areas.
4.
Stocking and Supply Management
Replenish cleaning and dishwashing supplies such as detergents, sanitizers, and cloths.
Report low inventory or damaged equipment to the supervisor for timely restocking or repair.
Ensure cleaning tools and chemicals are safely stored.
5.
Health & Safety Compliance
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures as per HACCP or local food handling guidelines.
Wear appropriate protective gear (aprons, gloves, masks, shoes) while on duty.
Report any hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately to supervisors.
6.
Assistance to Kitchen Staff
Assist with basic food preparation tasks as directed (e.g., washing vegetables, moving stock).
Ensure that workstations are cleaned and sanitized after prep work.
Support chefs during busy meal periods by clearing and cleaning prep areas quickly.
Job Requirements: Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Previous experience as a kitchen steward, cleaner, or in a similar hospitality role is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
Understanding of hygiene and safety standards in a kitchen environment.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Reliable, punctual, and a team player.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to work in hot, humid, and noisy kitchen environments.
Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks.
Working Conditions:
Shifts may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Fast-paced kitchen setting with frequent contact with hot surfaces, cleaning agents, and wet floors.
Team-based environment requiring cooperation with kitchen and service staff.
Performance Indicators:
Level of cleanliness and hygiene maintained in kitchen areas.
Timeliness and accuracy of dishwashing and cleaning tasks.
Adherence to safety and food handling procedures.
Feedback from chefs and supervisors.
