Job Title: Civil Site Foreman
Job Summary:
The Civil Site Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations on the construction site, ensuring that all site work (grading, drainage, utilities, paving, and other civil-related tasks) is completed to the highest standards. The foreman supervises crews, manages subcontractors, and coordinates with project managers to meet project goals in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Supervision & Leadership:
Lead and supervise a team of laborers, operators, and subcontractors on construction sites.
Ensure proper execution of site work in compliance with drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Directly oversee and coordinate day-to-day activities on the job site, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the project's progress aligns with the schedule and budget.
Manage and coordinate the delivery of materials, tools, and equipment.
Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce safety regulations and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents.
Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure the worksite is always compliant with OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
Provide guidance on safe operation of machinery and tools.
Quality Control:
Inspect the work performed by crews to ensure it meets quality standards and is completed according to the project's specifications.
Address any issues or discrepancies with the quality of work and take corrective actions as necessary.
Document daily progress, weather conditions, work performed, and any issues encountered.
Communication & Reporting:
Provide regular updates to the project manager or superintendent regarding site progress, manpower needs, and potential issues.
Maintain communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve any issues that arise on-site.
Maintain records of daily activities, materials used, and any incidents or accidents that occur on the job.
Training & Development:
Train and mentor crew members in construction techniques, safety procedures, and proper use of equipment.
Provide guidance to workers to ensure their work is efficient and meets the standards set by the project.
Equipment & Material Management:
Ensure proper maintenance and use of construction equipment and tools.
Monitor the site's material inventory and coordinate with suppliers to ensure materials are available as needed.
Problem-Solving:
Address any on-site issues that may arise, including resolving conflicts or delays.
Work with project managers to adjust plans and schedules if necessary to keep the project moving forward.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional certifications in construction, civil engineering, or related fields preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in civil construction, foreman or supervisory role.
Extensive experience in managing site operations, construction teams, and subcontractors.
In-depth knowledge of civil construction practices, materials, and equipment.
Skills:
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient in reading and understanding blueprints, plans, and specifications.
Solid understanding of construction safety standards and regulations.
Problem-solving abilities and adaptability to handle challenges on-site.
Certifications:
First Aid/CPR certification is often preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) and work on feet for extended periods of time.
Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment as needed.
Work Environment:
Construction site with exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and heavy machinery.
Safety gear, such as hard hats, safety boots, high-visibility clothing, and hearing protection, must be worn at all times.
