Job Description

As a Chainman your primary responsibility will be to assists surveyors with on-site measurements, data collection, and equipment management. You will be required to work outdoors in various conditions, often on construction sites, and will be required for accurate data collection, movement & maintaining survey equipment. The role involves setting up and holding survey markers, clearing vegetation, and ensuring the smooth functioning of surveying activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Preparation:

You might be required to clear vegetation, obstacles and or sand/ gravel from survey paths and ensure clear lines of sight for the surveyors.

Physical Stamina:

The job often involves physical labor, including carrying equipment and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Assisting Surveyors:

You are required to support surveyors in measuring distances, angles, and elevations using tools like chains, tapes, total stations, and GPS receivers.

Marker Placement:

You will be required to place survey markers, like stakes or pins, to establish points for measurements and construction layouts.

Data Collection:

You are required to support surveyors to collect and record survey data, ensuring accuracy and contributing to the creation of maps and plans.

Equipment Handling:

You will be responsible for maintaining and operating survey equipment, including electronic distance-measuring instruments.

Safety Compliance:

You must adhere to safety protocols and procedures on construction sites and other survey locations.

Communication:

You must communicate effectively with the survey team to coordinate efforts and ensure accurate data collection.

Record Keeping:

You are required to assist with record-keeping and minor equipment repairs.

Qualifications:

Entry-level Position:

this is an entry level position, but some experience with survey equipment and procedures may be preferred.

Physical Fitness:

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various conditions.

Attention to Detail:

Accuracy is crucial, so attention to detail is essential.

Communication Skills:

Good communication is needed to work effectively with the survey team.
