What Does a Category Lead Do?
The Category Lead is responsible for end-to-end procurement for assigned categories, including the development of sourcing strategies, execution of sourcing activities, contract negotiation, and supplier relationship management. The goal is to deliver measurable cost benefits while supporting business growth and maintaining compliance.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Develop a strategic sourcing roadmap and budget for fit-out and FM categories
- Manage all sourcing activities for new project developments and operational needs
- Create project-specific sourcing strategies aligned with internal policies and legal requirements
- Negotiate pricing and finalize commercial supply contracts in coordination with the legal team
- Perform total cost of ownership (TCO) and spend analysis to identify savings opportunities
- Lead consolidation, standardization, and scope optimization initiatives
- Maintain and improve vendor performance, ensuring SLA and KPI adherence
- Use procurement platforms such as Oracle, Ariba, or Coupa for e-sourcing and process efficiency
- Analyze market trends to improve sourcing decisions and mitigate risks
- Report on sourcing results and procurement effectiveness to leadership
What Skills Are Needed for a Category Lead Role in Dubai?
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of senior-level procurement experience in large organizations
Technical Skills:
- Strong experience in contract negotiation and legal compliance
- Proficiency in procurement platforms (Oracle, Ariba, Coupa)
- Knowledge of facilities management and interior fit-out procurement processes
- Skilled in spend analysis, supplier risk management, and sourcing strategy development
Soft Skills:
