Job Description

Position Summary
The Cashier is a vital front-line representative of our company, responsible for processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently. This role is essential for creating a positive and welcoming final impression on our customers. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, and possesses excellent customer service skills.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service:

  • Greet customers with a smile and a positive attitude as they approach the checkout.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and exchanges promptly and accurately using a cash register, POS system, or other equipment.
  • Answer customer questions about products, services, and store policies in a knowledgeable and courteous manner.
  • Bag or package purchases carefully and efficiently.
  • Thank every customer and invite them to return.
Transaction Processing:
  • Handle cash, credit/debit cards, gift cards, checks, and mobile payments.
  • Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure amounts are correct.
  • Accurately issue change, receipts, and refunds.
  • Balance the cash drawer at the end of the shift and report any discrepancies.
Store Operations Support:
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy checkout area.
  • Stock and arrange front-end products (e.g., bags, candies, drinks).
  • Assist in restocking shelves and organizing the sales floor as needed.
  • Help with price checks and inventory counts.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures regarding security and loss prevention.
Teamwork:
  • Collaborate effectively with sales associates, stockers, and management.
  • Communicate any customer concerns or issues to a manager promptly.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle transactions accurately and honestly.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Preferred:
  • Previous experience as a cashier, retail sales associate, or in a customer-facing role.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and cash registers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (e.g., 6-8 hours).
  • Ability to lift, carry, and place light packages (up to 25 lbs.) at shoulder height.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and scanner.
