Job Scope:
  • Coordinates and operates the research vessels, 41 ft, in coastal and offshore waters.
  • When required, operates the rescue vessels, 22 and 28 ft.
  • Ensures safe and efficient boat operations at any time.
  • Safely deploys and retrieves SCUBA divers, including drift dives, in moderate current, swell, and choppy conditions.
  • Navigates to GPS points.
  • When required, safely operates rescue vessels during emergency responses to rescue and stranding call and strictly follows instructions from Rescue Team when approaching and when team is handling a wild animal.
  • Assists field technician and research team with handling, rigging, and operation of research equipment, and working with students on educational cruises.
  • Manages daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of fuel systems, navigation systems, and electrical systems, as well as deck machinery, including but not limited to pumps, davits, winches, cranes and other gear as needed.
  • Executes general upkeeping, maintenance and repair of fleet (vessels and PWCs) including such items as scraping rust, painting, and cleaning duties.
  • Inspects and ensures the safe operation of all safety equipment onboard all vessels (PFD\xe2\x80\x99s, fire extinguishers, VHF radios, etc).
  • Applies and makes suggestions for improvements of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and practices which promote high-quality marine operations.
  • Monitors supply and equipment inventory to sustain day-to-day operations, including re-fueling.
  • Manages the maintenance of the fleet and ensures the vessels\xe2\x80\x99 preventative maintenance schedule is completed.
  • Maintains accurate records as required in the SOPs.
  • Assists in rescue, sampling, and monitoring operations, as needed.
  • Collaborates with SeaWorld Abu Dhabi Zoological and Education teams as required.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the YSWRRC projects by performing all other duties as assigned.
As an ideal candidate, you must have:
  • FTA Small Boat Driving License 24 meters.
  • UAE Driving License
  • 4 years of experience as small boat operator.
  • 2 years of experience in Abu Dhabi waters.
  • Knowledge and experience dealing with local coast guard/CICPA (Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection Authority)
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Abu Dhabi coastal and offshore waters.
  • Excellent competency for boat operations in all types of inclement weather.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components of marine machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow health and safety procedures during marine operations.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for email communication, maintaining logs and completing other administrative duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to company values and safety.
