What Does a Biology & ESS Teacher Do?
As a Biology and ESS Teacher, you will inspire Upper School students through engaging instruction aligned with the IB Diploma Programme. You will help students understand biological systems and global environmental challenges while nurturing critical thinking and scientific inquiry.
What Are the Key Responsibilities?
- Deliver high-quality lessons in Biology and ESS for IB MYP and DP students
- Integrate the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Teaching into classroom practice
- Guide students through scientific investigations, labs, and projects with real-world relevance
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing personalized feedback and support
- Foster international-mindedness and sustainability awareness through the ESS curriculum
- Collaborate with science faculty on curriculum design, assessment strategies, and interdisciplinary learning
- Support learners in preparing for internal and external assessments (e.g., IAs, DP exams)
- Actively contribute to school-wide initiatives, CAS projects, and co-curricular programs
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and engage parents through regular updates
- Participate in IB training and professional development
What Skills Are Needed for a Biology & ESS Teacher in Dubai?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related science discipline
- PGCE / PGDE or Bachelor of Education with Science specialization
- Advanced qualifications or IB certifications are advantageous
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of secondary teaching experience, ideally with IB MYP and DP Biology and ESS
- Experience in international or multicultural school settings is preferred
- Knowledge of the IB curriculum and assessment framework
Skills:
- Strong understanding of scientific inquiry and environmental systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
