Role Overview:

We are seeking a professional astronomer (or experienced astronomy guide) to lead and enhance our stargazing experience. The astronomer will be responsible for guiding guests through the night sky, operating telescopes, and delivering engaging talks on astronomy, celestial objects, and the cultural stories behind the stars.

Key Responsibilities:

Introducing the stargazing program. Deliver engaging and informative lectures on the stars, planets, and the night sky, tailored for both beginners and enthusiasts. Operate and set up telescopes for guests to observe celestial objects (e.g., planets, star clusters, nebulae). Assist guests in locating constellations and understanding astronomical phenomena. Share seasonal highlights (e.g., Milky Way visibility, meteor showers, lunar phases). Ensure safety and proper use of equipment.

Adapt sessions to the weather and visibility conditions.

Qualifications & Skills:

Degree or formal training in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or related field (preferred). Proven experience in public speaking and conducting stargazing sessions. Strong knowledge of astronomy, celestial navigation, and telescope operation. Ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and engaging way. Experience with different telescope types (manual and computerized). Passion for astronomy and sharing knowledge with diverse audiences. Flexibility to work evenings and in outdoor desert environments, on weekends and public holidays.

Preferred:

Experience working with tour groups or in hospitality. Knowledge of cultural or ancient astronomy and myths related to the stars.

Season & Availability:

This role is required on an ongoing basis throughout the year, with sessions scheduled as per our event calendar. In addition to regular public tours, availability will be required during:

Public holidays Special group bookings Private events Corporate events

Flexibility to work on weekends and public holidays is essential.

Compensation:

Based on per-event/session rate.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: AED750.00 - AED3,000.00 per month

Expected hours: 1 - 12 per week
