Overview The successful candidate will be responsible for the Systems Engineering of Airborne communications systems including on-board network, line of sight and satcom systems. Key Accountabilities
Manage the design of medium and large-scale projects as per customer requirements
Provide innovative and cost effective technical proposals and initiatives
Oversee the realization of designs, managing design problems throughout the project lifecycle
Manage Final Design Reviews, design certification and completion of End Item Data Packs
Support Post Delivery design issues, providing advice to in-service support teams and resolving latent design problems
Manage customer and suppliers efficiently
Mentor and train junior staff as required and ensure continuing development and evolution of technical expertise within the department
Requirements Project & Task Management
Develop work breakdown structures for project design tasks as required
Managing design teams to execute the design and development tasks on time and to the required quality
Managing technical risks including analysis and defining risk mitigation and fallback plans
Systems Engineering
Working to common System Design and Engineering practices, processes and standards
Production of high-quality System Requirements and Design specification and documentation
Execution of Systems Analysis tasks and production of Systems Analysis Reports
Communications Engineering
Advanced knowledge of the communications standards necessary for military grade systems, including MIL-STD, ETSI and ITU
Excellent working knowledge of RF Communications Systems Engineering tasks including RF link design and analysis for Satcom and/or line of sight datalinks
Knowledge of routing, switching and associated applications (such as telephony and video streaming)
Airborne Systems Engineering
Excellent working knowledge of Airborne radio data communications systems (Line of sight datalinks and/or Satcom systems)
Excellent working knowledge of international airborne design, verification, qualification and certification standards and processes including but not limited to: MIL-STD-810, -461 and DO-160 environmentals, DO178 and D0254 developments, ARINC and other avionics standards.
Very Good awareness of vendor airborne line of sight and/or satcom vendor products and systems
Customer Management
Managing senior level technical client interaction, including design reviews and technical proposal presentation
Developing good relationships with client personnel and a high level of trust
Communicating effectively with clients to identify their requirements
Vendor Management
Managing vendor interaction for the full lifecycle from assessing candidate supplier solutions and tendering through subcontracted supplier design and development activities and sub-system delivery and acceptance
Developing effective relationships with vendor personnel
Communicating effectively with vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery of designs and solution
Education & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent, Telecommunications and Electrical are a plus.
Master of Science in Engineering is a plus
10+ years in senior project technical roles on airborne satellite communications or line of sight datalink projects
