• Representing Al Buhaira National Insurance Company in a landmark DIFC Court case concerning a USD 70m coverage dispute arising out of the alleged disappearance of an oil tanker.
• Representing a multinational food and beverage company in a EUR 35m+ joint venture dispute (LCIA, London seat).
• Representing marine insurers and shipowners in relation to one of the largest oil pollution claims in the UAE in recent years, including various civil and criminal proceedings in the courts of the UAE and Oman
• Representing a drilling contractor in a claim against an oilfield operator for wrongful termination arising out of the global oil price collapse and COVID-19 related restrictions (ICC arbitration)
• Representing a disponent owner in a dispute with a national oil company under a contract of affreightment concerning the alleged misappropriation of crude oil (LMAA arbitration)
• Representing a global EPC contractor to the energy industry in a contractual dispute concerning the application of EU sanctions (SIAC, Singapore seat).
• Advising a government entity in relation to a USD 150m dispute under a long-term supply agreement.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong academic background
• 2-6 PQE in a City, major regional or boutique practice with exposure to high quality work
• Disputes lawyer with experience in some (not necessarily all) of the following areas: trade and commodities, dry shipping, shipbuilding, marine insurance, energy.
• Genuine commitment to the Middle East
• A willingness to assume responsibility and take a pro-active and commercial approach
• Driven, enthusiastic and flexible team player
• Entrepreneurial by nature with good commercial awareness
• A real interest in marketing and the ability to foster long-term client relationships
