Job description Title: Assistant Professor
2. Reporting:
Assistant Professors shall report to the relevant Head of Department.
3. Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor shall fulfill individual responsibilities as set out by the Head of Department/Dean of College, and shall be responsible for the following activities:
3.1 Teaching and Learning
\xef\x82\xb7 teach specified credit hours/week as per HEC regulations. This may be reduced in proportion to the increase in management duties.
\xef\x82\xb7 administer curriculum design and development in order to teach a variety of courses (including new programs and courses) at different levels.
\xef\x82\xb7 assist in development of the quality assurance framework in College level validating or revalidating courses.
\xef\x82\xb7 deliver knowledge with applied skills, methods and methodologies.
\xef\x82\xb7 inspire continuous improvement of creative methods in designing and delivering courses to ensure compliance of teaching design and delivery with the quality framework and regulatory authorities.
\xef\x82\xb7 inspire critical system thinking and enhance students\xe2\x80\x99 ability of engagement in analytical conversation. 3.2 Research
\xef\x82\xb7 participate in developing and implementing the University\xe2\x80\x99s research strategy.
\xef\x82\xb7 participate in research activity in specialized field that includes relevant research proposal and objectives.
\xef\x82\xb7 participate in collaborative research.
\xef\x82\xb7 write or make contribution to publications or disseminate research findings.
\xef\x82\xb7 apply research findings in real situation.
\xef\x82\xb7 present paper(s) at conferences.
\xef\x82\xb7 carry out independent research.
\xef\x82\xb7 contribute to peer assessment for research as required.
3.3 University-wide Engagement
\xef\x82\xb7 define resource needs within the area of responsibility.
\xef\x82\xb7 act on College strategic decisions in relation to staff and students.
\xef\x82\xb7 develop innovative ways for both teaching and research.
\xef\x82\xb7 develop and introduce solutions to problems.
\xef\x82\xb7 participate in community engagement activities at Department/College and University levels.
\xef\x82\xb7 take role in management duties (as need arises) such as: Head of Center/Unit in the University and Chair of Committees on both College and University levels.
4. Requirements:
4.1 In principle, the Assistant Professor is an academic of high professional reputation. Assistant Professor\xe2\x80\x99s qualifications include the following as stated in the Academic Regulations of the Higher Education Council (HEC Decisions No. 2/2007):
\xef\x82\xb7 holds PhD degree or an equivalent.
4.2 Gulf University, further recognizes the following qualifications for appointment of Assistant Professors:
\xef\x82\xb7 ability to create and maintain effective work relationships with staff.
\xef\x82\xb7 experienced in developing teaching curriculum and managing quality enhancement in higher education environment.
\xef\x82\xb7 excellent communicators with solid interpersonal skills.
\xef\x82\xb7 holds distinct record in research and scholarly activities at higher educational institutes.
5. Nomination and Appointment:
5.1 The Assistant Professor shall be nominated according to GU recruitment policy and procedures; the candidate must satisfy the specifications stated in the Regulations of the Higher Education Council (HEC Decisions No. 2/2007).
5.2 Assistant Professor appointment shall be approved by HEC.
6. Terms of Employment:
The term of employment of the Assistant Professor shall be of one year renewable upon performance evaluation and mutual agreement.
7. Confidentiality:
Assistant Professor shall not reveal any confidential information related to Gulf University unless authorized by the University President/Council. Assistant Professor shall sign the \xe2\x80\x98Confidentiality Statement\xe2\x80\x99 when appointed. Job Type: Full-time Ability to commute/relocate:
