About the Role
CNN Business Arabic is recruiting highly skilled assistant editor who will write and review Arabic text and multimedia content to produce a top-quality business news file that would keep its broad Arabic-speaking audience, including regional business and public affairs decision-makers, on top of the information game. The successful candidates will be based in Dubai or in Cairo, reporting to the beat editor.Key Accountabilities
  • Assist the Beat Editor in directing content. In doing so, the assistant editor.
  • Contribute as part of the team to consistent audience growth (set % month on month average) to help meet CNNBA business KPIs.
  • Contributes as part of the team to CNNBA\xe2\x80\x99s overall objective of producing 40 pieces of original content per day across platforms including 10 visual stories.
  • Enforce standard editing procedures and house style and follows CNNBA\xe2\x80\x99s approved Stylebook.
  • Keep abreast of, and responds to, local and regional developments relating to beat coverage.
  • Participate in daily planning sessions and maintains an ongoing story budget for the day\'s coverage.
  • Assist in assigning stories to reporters with clear direction to serve multi-platform expectations, clear deadline, and word count.
  • Assist in reviewing all incoming content to ensure the assigning brief is covered. Returns content to reporter if further revisions are needed.
  • Ensure the production of balanced and fair content with consideration of cultural sensitivities while avoiding legal pitfalls.
  • Ensure that all section staff are being as efficient and productive as possible.
  • Work to ensure that content is published to all digital platforms with accuracy and urgency.
  • Create content using digital storytelling tools and techniques to build packages ready for publication online.
  • Initiate or reply to correspondence regarding material published or being considered for publication.
  • Assist in managing freelance and travel costs within assigned budgets.
  • Lead special projects as mandated by the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Uphold and respect the social, cultural and moral standards of life in the UAE as well as the political and strategic national direction. Guides staff under his/her supervision to avoid circumstances in which the brand could be brought into disrepute and to respect the custodianship of IMI and its constituents.
Qualifications & Experience
  • University degree in business, economics, communication social sciences, English, or related fields; a diploma in Business English a plus.
  • Knowledge of editorial systems; social media awareness; proficient with SEO protocols.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a publishing house (magazine, local or regional newspaper) of which at least 2 years were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the factors behind successful coverage in the the region
  • Professional writing portfolio or similar evidence of writing capabilities should be presente
  • Exposure to content management on a dual platform
