The Aluminum Welding Technician in the marine industry is responsible for performing high-quality aluminum welding tasks, primarily for the construction, maintenance, and repair of aluminum vessel structures and components. The technician ensures work meets marine classification standards and project requirements while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform TIG and MIG welding on aluminum components such as hulls, superstructures, decks, tanks, and other marine parts.
Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Prepare and clean materials and joints prior to welding using grinders, brushes, and chemical cleaners.
Weld in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead) in accordance with welding procedures.
Inspect welds visually and with basic tools to ensure proper penetration and alignment.
Perform welding repairs on existing aluminum structures, both onboard and in the shipyard
Work with fabricators and other technicians to ensure correct assembly and fit-up before welding.
Adhere strictly to shipyard safety procedures, especially when working in confined or elevated spaces.
Report welding progress and any issues or material defects to the supervisor.
