As an Accountant you are requested to support the integrity of accounting and financial decision-making information at the Finance Department by ensuring that all financial records, transactions and reports are constantly up to standard, updated and maintained and are always in compliance with the University of Sharjah's policies and procedures.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
1. Provide accounting and treasury expertise to assist in the administration and management of the University's short-term investments, commercial borrowings and foreign exchange accounts.
2. Reconcile the UOS's primary Bank Accounts as well as all related accounts including (Gateway, Credit Card, Cash, Cheques, and Ledgers).
3. Act as the custodian of both payable and receivable Cheques, in addition to managing the online and credit card payables and receivables.
4. Manage the collection and delivery of cheques to faculty, employees, students, vendors, suppliers, and/or any other internal/external customers. As well as be the main point of contact regarding their payment status, and update the status of related payments queries in the designated system.
5. Coordinate with the Bank in order to carry out any telex transfers and approvals related to payments. As well as support the preparation of documents related to Banks and exchanges.
6. Coordinate and follow up with the Payroll and Employee Benefits Section regarding any matters related to bulk transfers such as salaries, allowances, and all other employee benefits payments.
7. Assist the line manager in coordinating with the Compliance and Internal Audit team and completing any internal or external audits and/or financial statements.
8. Ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting procedures and UOS bylaws at all times, and report any matters of concern to the line manager. As well as ensure the security, integrity and confidentiality of any incoming or outgoing financial information/data.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
Excellent working knowledge of personal computer applications with an emphasis on MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Teams.
Strong understanding of finance and accounting principles, processes and best practices.
Experience with bank reconciliation processes.
Proficiency in managing financial records and using accounting software/systems.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Time management skills.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant discipline.
A professional qualification as a chartered accountant or qualified member of an accountancy body.
2-4 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
Priority is to UAE Nationals.
