Accountant (Logistics & Freight)
Position: Accountant
Industry: Logistics, Supply Chain, and Freight Forwarding
Location: Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ), UAE
Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Accountant with specific experience in logistics accounting. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, from fixed assets and accounts payable to complex freight costing and revenue recognition. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate cost allocation, profitability analysis, and compliance with UAE VAT regulations and RAKEZ reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Handle end-to-end payroll processing for employees.
  • Manage fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
Logistics-Specific Accounting:
  • Freight Costing & Accruals: Accurately record and allocate freight costs, shipping charges, customs duties, and other logistics-related expenses.
  • Job Costing & Profitability Analysis: Track costs and revenues by shipment, client, or lane to determine profitability.
  • Accounts Payable (Vendor Management): Process invoices from airlines, shipping lines, trucking companies, and other service providers, verifying charges against agreed tariffs.
  • Accounts Receivable (Client Invoicing): Prepare and issue customer invoices accurately and timely, based on service agreements (prepaid vs. collect).
  • Prepaid & Amortization: Manage prepaid expenses related to freight and amortize them correctly.
VAT & Compliance:
  • Ensure full compliance with UAE VAT regulations, including accurate VAT calculation on imports, exports, and local services.
  • Prepare and submit timely VAT returns.
  • Maintain proper documentation for VAT audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all RAKEZ authority requirements and assist in the renewal processes.
Audit & Analysis:
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions, if applicable.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certification: Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years specifically within a logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain company.
  • Essential: Proven experience with logistics accounting concepts (job costing, freight accruals, vendor payables).
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Tally) and MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • In-depth knowledge of UAE VAT legislation and its application in the logistics industry is mandatory.
  • Soft Skills:
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
