The Able Seaman (AB) is a skilled deck rating responsible for performing a wide range of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and safety of the vessel. Working under the supervision of the Bosun or deck officers, the AB ensures that all deck operations are carried out efficiently and safely. This position is based in
Abu Dhabi
and may involve offshore assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out mooring, anchoring, and unmooring operations as directed.
Handle deck maintenance tasks, including chipping, painting, greasing, and cleaning.
Operate deck machinery such as winches, windlasses, and cranes under supervision.
Assist with cargo operations, lashing, and securing when required.
Stand lookout and helm watch as per bridge requirements.
Participate in emergency drills and be familiar with the vessel's safety and fire-fighting equipment.
Assist in the launching and recovery of lifeboats and rescue boats.
Support gangway watchkeeping duties and perform general housekeeping.
Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions to the Bosun or officer on watch.
Qualifications:
Valid
Able Seaman (AB) Certificate
as per STCW standards.
Valid STCW certificates: Basic Safety Training, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB), Security Awareness, etc.
Valid Seaman's Book, Medical Certificate (as per STCW/MLC 2006).
Minimum
2-3 years of sea service
as an AB or Ordinary Seaman on similar vessels.
Good knowledge of seamanship, deck operations, and shipboard safety.
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience on vessels operating in UAE or Abu Dhabi waters.
Familiarity with ADNOC or Abu Dhabi Maritime regulations is an advantage.
Experience on offshore vessels, tugboats, or oil & gas support vessels preferred.
