Job Description

Day-to-day responsibility for, or provide support on, projects that generate new products, processes and understanding of commercial value to JM. Contributes to the improvement of the team or processes within JM.
Job purpose
As a Senior Technical Service Engineer, the role holder will be required to work independently (with support from other regional technical service engineers) as the key point of contact providing technical expertise and advice to customers across the region within the Hydrogen and Refinery Purification business, and has the opportunity to expand their proficiency to other CT technologies. They will apply technical understanding and knowledge of the CT product portfolio to solve a range of problems, from simple troubleshooting to complex projects. They will be the technical face of the CT organisation, both liaising with customers remotely and travelling to meet with regional customers in person.
Principal accountabilities
  • Provide technical service to customers through direct customer support in standard and non-standard situations. This includes preparing technical proposals, performance evaluations, troubleshooting, and responding to customer inquiries.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with customers in an ethical and safe manner
  • Act as the voice of the customer to feed technical and market information back into the business to enable JM to enhance product offering
  • Engage in customer visits including technical meetings and plant audits
  • Work flexibly to ensure that changing work demands are prioritised and adequately supported
  • Own tasks, ensuring they are completed within time constraints
  • Handle complex technical support issues related to the plant and catalyst both proactively and in response to “emergencies" aimed at delivering long-term value for JM and the customer
  • Liaise with the wider Technical Service team (Service Coordination, TS-SME team) and Sales colleagues to ensure that work requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced colleagues
  • Actively look to build proficiency beyond own core technology within CT technical scope
  • Assist the Sales organization with technical evaluations
  • Initiate suggestions for improvements and development tasks to be performed
  • Extract maximum value from the segmented customer base through developing and deploying the appropriate level of technical services
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with JM code of ethics and EHS policy and practices
  • Carry out other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
  • Travel to customer plant sites to act as JM supervisor during catalyst changeouts, reductions, and start-ups
  • Role involves up to 40% travel to customer offices and plants, including occasional night shifts supervision at customer plant sites.
Qualifications/ knowledge/ experience
(Technical/ professional knowledge and skills competency)
Degree in a scientific/technical discipline (Chemical Engineering preferred)
Solid knowledge of Syngas flowsheets and syngas and refinery purification catalysts
Established knowledge and experience in supporting customers with onsite support work including changeouts, reductions, and startup
Significant customer-facing experience
Strong understanding of customers’ business and production process
Ability to drive change
Proficient written and spoken English communication skills
Experience defining best practice processes
Strong IT and computing skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Capable of working independently to deliver business critical objectives
Confident public speaker
