Position Summary
New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) seeks to appoint an International Logistics Specialist reporting to the Director of Logistics The International Logistics Specialist will be responsible for managing the international freight forwarding and the related operational administrative duties, including but not limited to, determining the correct method of shipment and providing an unbroken logistics chain for different goods (i.e. chemicals, biological items, equipment) including any goods deemed necessary to support the logistic activities across the multiple business units.

The Specialist will manage the end-to-end logistics chain in compliance with the different applicable Export / Import control rules, including obtaining any required Ministry Licenses and Permits required for customs clearance.

The role will be reporting to the Director of Logistics, and recommending process and value improvement opportunities, in supporting the achievement of the Department's mandate and objectives, with the ultimate objective of supporting the academic and research mission of the University.

The role of the specialist will be working directly with logistics companies to manage the logistics actions in support of research and teaching on a global scale. The role will require working collaboratively, with the different stakeholders, to drive effectiveness and efficiency, throughout the chain, with the guiding principle of improving internal client satisfaction.

Provide services that guarantee timely and accurate material delivery and a good understanding of transporting complex shipments such as live animals and provides for regular and timely status updates of goods that are in transit.

Will arrange for packing, pickup, and transport services as required either onsite (NYUAD campus) or at the field or vendor locations. Will arrange for land, air, and sea transport, as appropriate and cost-effective and efficient, factoring in the needs of the customer. Will cross-train, as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the end-to-end logistics chain from factory to campus, or from campus to other collaborators' destinations, in compliance with the different applicable export/import control rules, including obtaining any required Ministry Licenses and Permits required for customs clearance. All outstanding and concluded Logistics Transactions should be maintained in an organized and structured way and kept up to date, and ready for sharing with all University's key stakeholders.
Manage the relationship, and day-to-day interactions, with a list of preferred logistics vendor partners to support the function of managing Transportation / Custom Clearance
The specialist should communicate and collaborate with the different University' stakeholders to provide logistics support and resolve any operational issues; such support should be provided with the guiding principle of continuously improving the internal client experience
Provide customs clearance support to ensure timely and smooth delivery of goods
Develop and manage standard operating procedures and shipping practices to effectively and efficiently carry out logistics activities. Contribute to any Policy development that guides the development of the standard operating procedures
Provide direct Logistics support to Procurement for both local and foreign deliveries, while ensuring compliance with NYAUD regulations and internal policies
Proactively work with vendors to identify and eliminate any obstacles in Logistics and demonstrate process improvement and operational efficiencies
Will handle end-to-end packing and transport of goods as required in support of customers' needs
Manage the logistics chain effectively and efficiently and participate in optimizing the Logistics function in deciding when and where to rely on goods providers to manage the Logistics and deliver to Campus, and where and when we need to rely on our logistics vendors partners
Required Education:
IATA Cat Six Dangerous Goods Regulations, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or equivalent
Able to work under minimum supervision
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
High level of organization and process discipline
Proficient in MS Office
Experience in performance and operations management.
Business comprehensive vision and a level of understanding of principles of commercial and operating risk
Preferred Education:
Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)
Required Experience:
Logistics specialist with 5+years of Experience
Customer service-oriented must have a sense of urgency and prioritize work.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Team player
Ability to multitask
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
Preferred Experience:
Experience in higher education in the UAE is a plus
Minimum of 10 years experience in shipping and logistics in a Research Center
